Canada Bill Jones - Casino Cheater

The beginning

Canada Bill Jones was born in early 1800s and was known for his various popular poker quotes. He moved to Canada when he was 20 and thus he gained this name. Jones began with learning monte which he learnt with the help of Dick Cady, who was an experienced player and became one of the leading members of a scam that was continued in Canada for almost twenty years.

Later he moved to New Orleans and travelled widely on riverboats and later on railroads when the riverboats ran out of steams. Later, he even tried to use his scams on the race tracks. He was known for his love of adventure and he constantly tried to learn new tricks and explore unknown territories in the field of casino cheating .

A partnership with George Devol

George Devol had been an accomplice of Canada Bill Jones for some time and even mentioned him in his book later. He was famous for his very unsuspecting character due to which he gained such successful. Canada Bill Jones had made very large fortunes during his peak career years that he could retire if he wished. However, the sad part was that he didn't and he ended up being a victim of a the other players` scam at the Faro game. Although he had made plenty of money during his years, he ended up losing it all and when he died in 1880, he had no money at all.

The cleverest cheater

However, he was known to be one of the cleverest cheaters of the old times ever and had been highly successful in cheating other players by charming them with his innocence. At one point of time he had been in Baton Rouge and after searching a lot he had found a game of Faro in a barber's shop in the town. George Devol warned him that the dealer of the game had been cheating and asked Canada to leave the game, but he replied that he knew the dealer was cheating and proceeded playing as it was the only game available in the town.
